University of New South Wales Sydney’s “What Makes You Employable – India Roadshow”
By: Akshat Pande. Student (attended IOD last year)
Last November, the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney conducted a series of exciting road shows across India via an exclusive ‘India Open Day’, to further strengthen their association with Indian students and parents. I was one of the students who attended this road show in Mumbai, and it is commendable to have witnessed a prestigious Australian university like this hosting a personable event under the theme of Employability, to give Indian students the chance to tap into a world of opportunities offered by a global institute like UNSW.
IOD 2018 gave me a feel of life on UNSW Sydney’s sprawling campus, while its expert and supportive faculty from diverse streams provided the necessary insight into its plethora of robust undergraduate, postgraduate, and research disciplines like—Engineering, Business, Art & Design, Arts & Social Sciences, Science, Medicine, Law, Built Environment, and several others. They further guided me about the university’s multicultural environment, scholarships, support services, and ways to prepare myself for exciting career prospects across industries on the completion of my studies.
I was fascinated with the entire set-up of the event, and being a tech-enthusiast, it was a surreal experience for me. There was a grand walk-in LED experience at the entrance with stunning visuals of Sydney on high-definition screens. Following the insightful exchange with the faculties and support staff, I was taken through a host of interactive zones. The first one was a Hexagon Stand, which was basically a game to discover the field of study that suited my profile and aligned with my interests the most.
This was followed by a LinkedIn Zone, wherein experts from the Careers and Employability team helped me with creating an impressive LinkedIn profile, or updating an existing one. As I have always heard a lot about the high employability quotient of UNSW graduates, this was a brilliant initiative by the university, to aid me in enhancing my professional profile.
Technology was optimized by UNSW Sydney to create a memorable event for us, by further installing a VR Zone, which provided for a virtual tour of the beautiful UNSW Sydney campus and surroundings. Towards the end of the event, there was a Green Screen Zone that gave us the opportunity to get photographed against the beautiful landscape of Sydney, which surely added to my enthusiasm for studying in Australia’s financial hub.
There was also a host of seminars, master classes and presentations conducted by the expert faculty of UNSW Sydney on exciting subjects like quantum science and technology, cyber security, software engineering and future cities. With all of this, UNSW Sydney’s India Open Day was a truly magical experience for me, which fortified my decision to study there. Soon after the event, I enrolled into the university’s Master of Commerce (Extension) programm, and can confidently say that I am more than happy with my decision, as I am currently experiencing world-class education at UNSW’s state-of-the art Sydney campus.
