Germany has introduced a new requirement called the Digital Master Assessment Test (dMAT) for selected Indian students applying for Master’s programmes.
This requirement will be applicable for Summer 2027 intake onwards and will be an additional step in the APS certification process for eligible students.
If you are planning to study in Germany, here is what you should know.
What is dMAT?
The Digital Master Assessment Test (dMAT) is a standardised online aptitude test for selected Indian students applying for Master’s programmes in Germany.
The test helps German universities understand a student’s academic ability before admission.
Please note that dMAT does not replace the APS certificate. APS document verification is still compulsory.
Who Needs to Take dMAT?
Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in the following subjects may need to take the dMAT:
- Engineering
- Commerce
- Accounting
- Finance
- Economics
- Business
- Management
If your degree is in one of these fields, check whether your chosen university requires dMAT as part of the APS process.
Why is dMAT Important?
The dMAT has been introduced to make the admission process more transparent and help universities assess students in a standard way.
For eligible students, completing the dMAT is now an important step before receiving the APS certificate.
APS is Still Mandatory
Many students think dMAT replaces APS, but that is not true.
You still need to complete the APS document verification process.
For eligible applicants:
- APS Certificate – Mandatory
- dMAT Test – Mandatory (if applicable)
Both requirements must be completed.
