The National Overseas Scholarship Scheme, run by the Central India, aims to help low-income students from Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers, and Traditional Craft workers obtain higher education, such as a Master’s or Ph.D., by studying abroad, and thus improving their economic and social status. Each Year, 100 new students gets the benifit of this scheme which is subject to funding availability. Candidates from Scheduled Castes have 90 % quota, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes receive 06 quota, Landless Agricultural Labourers receive 04 % quota , and Traditional Artisans receive four %. The Scheme gives financial help to selected applicants who wish to pursue Masters and Ph.D. level courses in institutions/universities overseas that have been certified by the government/an authorised body.
Each year, 30 percent of the sholarships are reserved for female applicants. A minimum of 60% or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination would be necessary to be eligible for a scholarship. The qualifying exam for Ph. D courses is a Masters Degree, while the qualifying exam for Masters Degree courses is a Bachelors’ Degree. The candidate’s age shall not exceed 35 (thirty-five) years as of April 1st of the selection year. In the previous year, the total household income from all sources must not have exceeded Rs. 8.00 lakh. The family is defined as “the candidate applying for a scholarship, his or her parents, and siblings under the age of 18” under the Scheme for determining family income.
