MARIA : Peter! Pamela!
PETER : Hello! How are you?
MARIA : At last! We thought you were never coming.
JOHN : Did you have a good journey?
PAMELA : Well anyway, it’s lovely to see you both. Oh, the house looks beautiful!
PETER : I never realized you had such a big garden, Dad.
JOHN : Ah, let me take your coats.
PETER : Thanks.
PAMELA : Thank you.
JOHN : You both look so well.
MARIA : You’ve no idea how we’ve been looking forward to this.
JOHN : Now, do sit down. What can I get you to drink
PETER : Ah!
JOHN : Pamela?
PAMELA : Oh, let’s think.
JOHN : Sherry?
PAMELA : Oh, yes, yes, please. I’ll have a medium sherry
JOHN : What about you, Peter?
PETER : Whisky, please Dad. With water.
PAMELA : Well. Here we all are.
MARIA : I can’t believe that we’re really all together again.
JOHN : Maria’s cooked a really splendid dinner to celebrate. Your favorite, Peter.
MARIA : Now then, it’s a secret!
JOHN : Here you are.
PETER : A drink!
MARIA : Oh, and we managed to get hold of some of that wine you liked so much.
PETER : Not that lovely rosé you brought back from Provence?
MARIA : Yes. You both said you’d never tasted anything so delicious. Do you remember?
PAMELA : Oh yes, it was lovely. Oh, it is good to be here. Peace and quiet at last.
PETER : It’s certainly nice to get out of that poky old London flat for a change.
MARIA : By the way, the spare room’s right at the top 40 of the house. It’s got a lovely view over the countryside and gets lots of sun in the morning.
JOHN : Well, here’s to you.
PAMELA:PETER : } Yes, and to you. Cheers.
JOHN : Now then, how are you both? How are you settling down in London?
MARIA : Will you want a hot water bottle?
PAMELA : Not for me, thanks, Mum.
PETER : We never had one since the last one burst. No, it did really?
JOHN : Well, you can tell that Maria’s glad to see you. She’s determined to spoil you. Hot-water bottles and all!
MARIA : Well, of course, I am. You don’t know how happy I am to see you both.
JOHN : What’s that?
PAMELA : Yeah, something’s burning.
MARIA : Oh no! The dinner!
PAMELA : Oh dear!
